Ina

There is a creation story from the Cook Island Chain called Ina and the Eel.  In it the main character, Ina, must forsake her love for a sea prince in order to save her village from flood waters.  She does so with grief but with the confidence that her choice is the only one to be made.  Of course she does have the romance of a lifetime and learns the secrets of the oceans first.
